Renin-Angiotensin System Drugs - data icon Data Focussed Commentary

Telmisartan licence change
Since these NPCi materials were published, telmisartan has been licensed for cardiovascular prevention (see Summary of Product Characteristics for details). To accompany this licence change, telmisartan has become a black triangle drug intensively monitored by the MHRA and CHM. This licence extension does not change any of the messages in these materials.

We have produced data-focussed commentaries to highlight areas where there appear to be differences between the evidence-base, as described elsewhere on this floor, and current clinical practice. These resources can be read on the screen by clicking the 'flash' version, or by downloading and printing the 'PDF' version.

This commentary covers the prescribing of ACE inhibitors and angiotensin-2 receptor antagonists (A2RA) across England and highlights some key issues around the evidence for these agents.

A guide to the support materials for this topic is available in the library.

ACE-inhibitors and angiotensin-2 receptor antagonists are used in a number of indications.  There are data-focussed commentaries which discuss their use in some of these on other floors of NPCi.  Click on the links below to view them.

Data focussed commentaries are written in the context of careful consideration of the available evidence. There are limits to the interpretation of data and assuming it is a true reflection of clinical practice. Nevertheless, we regard the issues represented within data focussed commentaries as being legitimate issues for debate.
